About This Project
18 E Ocean Avenue is a coastal custom home in Ocean Ridge, Florida, completed in 2022. Ocean Ridge sits on the barrier island south of Boynton Beach, a small municipality with a residential character that distinguishes it from its more densely developed neighbors. E Ocean Avenue properties in Ocean Ridge include some of the most desirable waterfront and near-waterfront lots on the southern Palm Beach County coast, and the construction environment here requires the coastal expertise — flood zone compliance, wind zone systems, impact envelope — that SouthShore applies to every barrier island project.
The coastal design vocabulary at 18 E Ocean is straightforward and intentional: a home that looks like it belongs on a barrier island, built to survive the conditions that implies. Clean exterior lines, durable finish materials that perform in salt air, impact systems throughout, and a site plan that orients the primary living spaces toward the water. The first-floor finished elevation was set to comply with the current FEMA flood map designation for the site, coordinated with the structural engineer before the foundation design was finalized.
Ocean Ridge's building department is smaller than those in Delray Beach or Boca Raton, and the permitting process there has its own character — a more direct relationship between the contractor and the building officials, shorter inspection queues when the schedule is managed correctly. SouthShore has established working relationships with Ocean Ridge's building staff through this project and the 20 E Ocean Avenue project completed the following year on the same block. That familiarity is one of the reasons both projects moved efficiently through the inspection process.
